why 365

For the last several years, my life has had too much work and not enough play. It can be all too easy to get caught up in the daily grind. I needed inspiration. I needed motivation. Something like National Novel Writing Month, but for art. Enter Noah Scalin's new book 365: A Daily Creativity Journal: Make Something Every Day and Change Your Life! and his call to make something every day for an entire year. So there it was: a reason, a context, a challenge. All I needed was to decide what to make. Quilt blocks, maybe, or postcard paintings, or flower photos. But none seemed right. I loved the way Noah picked a specific theme and executed it in a variety of media, providing a basic structure with the freedom to try new things.
