I still haven't got caught up, though I did post this to Facebook via Pinterest, which I am counting as number 244. And here is number 245 which I took at the Border's close-out sale, though I will admit, I didn't actually buy the book (though now I'm kind of wishing I had). At any rate, it gets me nearly caught up. The good news: I have today's done as well. But figured it deserved its own post.

koru #203 and 204
Okay, I'll admit it... I did not capture a koru on July 13th. I can blame the fact that I was traveling, but I've traveled before, so let's just skip the excuses and move on to the two I snapped on July 14th on the window of the San Carlos, CA Trader Joe's. You'll need to look closely to see the spiral in the sun, but it's in there.

koru #201
Okay, one last Folk Art Market post, this one from Kyrgyzstani artist
Erkebu Djumagulova.
One little curly koru sheep... two little curly koru sheep... zzzzzzz

koru #200
This is actually yesterday's koru but thanks to the crashing of the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market website, I wasn't able to get the artist info until today. This absolutely gorgeous piece of jewelry was created by Serzhan Bashirov of Kazakhstan. I wish I had photographed more of his stuff because much of it included spiral motifs including a ring I nearly bought but didn't because I just don't ever wear rings.

koru #199
This morning I went to my first-ever Santa Fe International Folk Art Market. All I can say is holy cow! There was so much amazing stuff there, many of which featured koru patterns including this carved gourd by Bertha Medina from Peru. And that other guy on the gourd looked a little familiar himself...

koru #192
Okay, I hate to do this to you but I found one of the coolest koru images around. Unfortunately it's copyright protected so you're just going to have to click the link to see it. Sure I could have emailed her and asked for permission, but when you see it you will understand why I just could not wait.
Drumroll please..........
Koru Pizza
Seriously, go check it out. It has the recipe and everything. :) And maybe if you're really good, I'll post a bonus guest koru later. Enjoy!

koru #191
Maori carved shell necklace belonging to poet Ann Filemyr who I met last night at a poetry reading. She purchased the piece in New Zealand from a traditional Maori artist.

koru # 150
To be honest, I'm not sure there is any way for me to explain this piece except to say that it is part of an installation and performance piece called The Due Return now showing at Santa Fe's Center for Contemporary Arts through July 11, 2011. Really interesting stuff, and definitely an experience. If you're local, check it out.
