Fall is apple season at my parents' house in Belmont and this year they have a bumper crop. I know I have already featured an apple peel koru before, but when my dad sent me this one I just couldn't resist.
Granny Smith apple peels, Belmont, CA. (Thanks, Dad and Mom!)

koru #237
This absolutely stunning piece titled "Broken Fern frond and Wet Feathers" was made by Renee Bareno. Our mutual friend Jane sent it my way. Many thanks to both of them.

My friend Ed sent me these lovely virtual cupcakes from the Lavender Bakery for my birthday. I bet they are just as delicious as they are beautiful. Thanks, Ed!

koru #193
And from my friend John, a curled fern frond taken at Mainau's Schmedderlinghaus(butterfly house), Germany.I have been receiving a whole passel of korus in my inbox lately, and todays were all so cool I had a hard time deciding. Then I figured, when in doubt, don't choose, so here's a koru two-fer for a holiday weekend.
From my mom, a spiral staircase with spiral ironwork banisters taken at a hotel in Trento, Italy.
And from my friend John, a curled fern frond taken at the Schmedderlinghaus (butterfly house) in Insel Mainau, Germany. Enjoy!

koru #187
Last night my friend Andria sent me this koru. Her timing was uncanny as hundreds (perhaps thousands by this point) of acres of Northern New Mexico are currently burning. Across the northeastern part of the state the skies are choked with smoke and it is raining ash in Santa Fe. Although the cause of the newest fire which currently threatens the Los Alamos National Labs is still unknown, and dry thunderstorms are forecast for this afternoon, I can only echo Smokey's words: Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires. And yes, despite what I always thought about the desert, it is forests that are burning, tall ponderosa pines and pinon. Please pray for rain.

koru # 180
Random beach foam koru (lower center) sent to me by my friend Wendy. Her daughter Jaime took the picture. So cool.

koru #167
Yes, another guest koru. I just got feedback on my novel and got distracted with plotting and research. It's a good one though, again from my parents who found this little wire darling on a London sidewalk, just sitting there waiting to be noticed. Love that.

koru #166
So this morning I got an email from my father entitled "octokoru" with the following picture attached. After pressing him for more details, he told me it was a photo of a picture, I'm guessing, hanging on the walls of the Seattle Aquarium, where he and my mother spent the day celebrating her birthday (happy birthday mom!). So very cool. Thanks dad!

My parents just got back from a visit to Italy and I believe they found this at the Pisa airport. Very cool. Thanks, Mom!

koru #130
It's apparently koru-unfurling time in the pacific northwest (and pacific coast in general). This one comes from my brother in the Seattle area. I especially love the way the individual leaves form their own tiny koru shapes.
You can see the same thing in another koru from my mom in the San Francisco bay area. Very cool.

koru #120
This stunner comes from my mom. It's amazing the way they curl. Just had to share it. But don't worry. I hope to have a surprising crafted koru tomorrow.

koru #118
According to my mother who took this very cool picture, this sculpture sitting in front of the Honolulu Aquarium is almost 5 feet tall. As my cousin so aptly observed: "you are getting sleepy..."
And yes, I know I promised fewer "found" and more "made" but this one was too good to pass up.

bonus koru
Hurray for art blog cross-over! Acrobotica is one of my favorite daily art blogs (not just because it's created by a good friend). It's creative and witty and just plain fun. Check it out.
