koru number 308, 309, and 310

Yesterday was my housemate Kristin's birthday (happy birthday!) and she received the most gorgeous bouquet -- one I could not help but photograph.

310 (11/3): Kristin's birthday rose (and its friends)

309 (11/2): Postcard from Wendy Johnson after Nourishment from the Boundless Field retreat in September (yes, it actually did take me that long to notice the koru)

308 (11/1): Enamel wood-burning stove, Santa Fe, NM

266: Purple datura / jimson weed (look close to see the curl at the end of one petal point).

koru #238

I have found the ultimate koru-gathering online tool for all those amazing little photo and craft finds that I just don't feel quite right about "borrowing" without asking. Chances are, some of you already know about it, but here it is anyway: my koru board on Pinterest. Already it houses 29 of some of the coolest korus around -- from cookies to crochet, from spiral staircases to spiderwebs. Including this stunner from moonfruitmuse.

I also have pinboards for artist trading cards, quilts, crafts, gardens, dream homes, and more. There's just nothing quite like having this kind of beauty in your life. Even if it is virtual. Hope to see you there.

koru #193

And from my friend John, a curled fern frond taken at Mainau's Schmedderlinghaus(butterfly house), Germany.I have been receiving a whole passel of korus in my inbox lately, and todays were all so cool I had a hard time deciding. Then I figured, when in doubt, don't choose, so here's a koru two-fer for a holiday weekend.

From my mom, a spiral staircase with spiral ironwork banisters taken at a hotel in Trento, Italy.

And from my friend John, a curled fern frond taken at the Schmedderlinghaus (butterfly house) in Insel Mainau, Germany.  Enjoy!

koru #130

It's apparently koru-unfurling time in the pacific northwest (and pacific coast in general). This one comes from my brother in the Seattle area. I especially love the way the individual leaves form their own tiny koru shapes.

You can see the same thing in another koru from my mom in the San Francisco bay area. Very cool.

koru #120

This stunner comes from my mom. It's amazing the way they curl. Just had to share it. But don't worry. I hope to have a surprising crafted koru tomorrow.

koru #115a/b

So, I'm supposed to be on internet hiatus through Sunday, but I figure if I've got the koru, I may as well post the koru (or two -- one made, one found -- as the case may be).

Random seed pods found in park.

Just in case you were wondering what that koru was...

koru #104

Today was a great day for koru-spotting, but I have to feature this one, sent to me by my brother in Seattle, WA. It's absolutely beautiful. I love the way the brown "branches" wrap like fingers around the tiny, newly forming leaves. Thanks, Tone -- miss you.

koru #66 (a and b)

Vine tendril, Passiflora edulis, Brisbane, CA.

Metal paperweight belonging to my friend Myrta. Not only is it a gorgeous koru, it features one of my favorite quotes by Thoreau.

Sorry for the delay on yesterday's post. My first day back at work after a two week vacation ate my brain.
