koru #322

I absolutely love this lapis lazuli and wire necklace by jewelry artist Maro Morales. The motion is amazing and the blue stone looks like it's being tossed by waves.

Check out her Flickr photostream for more amazing work. If only I could find an Etsy shop of her work...

koru #318

One of the women in my writing retreat wore a gorgeous necklace all week. Of course I completely forgot to ask what kind of stone it was because the wrapped silver wire koru had me mesmerized.

I also forgot to check the photo before I let her leave, so it's out of focus, but you get the idea. It's a beauty even blurry.

koru #312 - moss & mist

Today in my online travels (a nasty cold has prevented me from getting much useful done, like upping my nano word count or working on my quilt), I came across an amazing piece of jewelry on Flickr by Moss & Mist. I had to know more so I followed the trail to her very cool Etsy shop -- full of a whole host of stunning spiral motif rings. Not only are they beautiful, they are very reasonably priced. Definitely worth checking out.

koru #269 - 272

Back in California to pack up a few things.

269: Nephews' shell pendants, gifts from my brother from Tahiti (paddle and surfboard).

270: Light fog image with spiral; no idea what it was supposed to be a picture of...

271: IKEA curtain panel.

272: Mom's tie-dye t-shirt (can't believe she still has this, we made them when I was a kid).

koru #200

This is actually yesterday's koru but thanks to the crashing of the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market website, I wasn't able to get the artist info until today. This absolutely gorgeous piece of jewelry was created by Serzhan Bashirov of Kazakhstan. I wish I had photographed more of his stuff because much of it included spiral motifs including a ring I nearly bought but didn't because I just don't ever wear rings.

koru #191

Maori carved shell necklace belonging to poet Ann Filemyr who I met last night at a poetry reading. She purchased the piece in New Zealand from a traditional Maori artist.

koru #123

So I wasn't sure I should post this one because I didn't want to spoil the surprise, but since my brother's birthday was last week, I figured what the heck. Besides, it's not the only surprise in the box.

Happy birthday, Tone!

Green-coated copper wire with skill bead, purchased at Beadweaver of Santa Fe.

koru #83

Silver and opal bracelet found in an old jewelry box while sorting through storage. I used to wear it all the time. I'm so happy to have it back.

koru #72

So when my sister completed the necklace I posted last, there was one bead left over. This is what she did with it. Can't wait to find the perfect chain so I can start wearing it.

koru #71

Santa Fe has some amazing jewelry. I found the cross-shaped beads in a clothing store there called Dharma. My sister helped me pick out the spacer beads and put the whole piece together for me. She is good.

koru #69

My sister makes jewelry. Recently her friend Maggie Towne gifted her a whole bowl of beautiful Maggie's Bead Towne hand-blown glass beads. When I visited my sister today they were sitting on her dining room table in a crystal candy dish like a glimmering find-the-koru game. How many can you find? (Scroll down for a clearer if less artistic picture.) Santa Clara, CA.

I count eight in this one.

koru #58

I actually made something! Okay, put something together, anyway, but it was still fun. Green turquoise donut, silver spiral charm, brown leather cord.

All pieces purchased from Beadweaver, Santa Fe, NM.

And just for fun, here's another cool, koru-rich jewelry possibility.
